Are you referring to the panel where you can select Volume, Play Test sound, Start Sequencer and so on? I did go there last night but when I select volume I don't get any volume control to set it with. I did not however click a button in the bottom right it was sort of in the centre of the screen.

Open YaST, click Hardware > Sound. Then with your sound card selected, look down on the bottom right. There is a button there labeled Other. Click it and select Volume. This will take you direct to the master volume sliders. Adjust them up and click Test.
