Not likely anything I didn't put in my replies to the threads Bob S started here and on the KDE list(s) in recent weeks, but note I installed 12.1 on his system over a month ago with sysvinit-init, KDE3 and Gnome on NVidia, with no KDE4.
Using sysvinit-init you get /var/log/boot.msg to use for troubleshooting. Systemd is unable to do that.
Thanks. Looked through the boot.msg and did not find anything special. One question. Does your boot.msg also ends with : Kernel logging (ksyslog) stopped.
