[SLE] Configuring a CD ROM writer

Hi all, I have two IDE cd rom on my computer one of them is a cd writer. The system sees both of them and assign /dev/hdc to the CD ROM reader and /dev/hdd to the CD ROM writer. I would like to burn some cds under Linux, can you point me to some useful reading or give me some tips? I seem to remember that I have to recompile the kernel with scsi support and then?
