hi,
From: Andrew Lietzow [mailto:andrewl@theaclgroup.com] Dear SuSE wizards,
I believe I am running:
bind9-9.1.3-197 SuSE 7.3 LInux 2.4.10 (at least that is what <rpm -q programname> returns for each of these).
I have DNS running on another server (RHL 7.0) with bind8 and it appears to function normally. One the SuSE server, however, when I enter a URL, at first the server can't find the domain. On the second request, the domain comes up.
could you send more information like what options you have enabled for this zone, which one is the master server, which one the slave server? could you include an output of dig? (dig @dnsserver fully.qualified.domain.name. would do) are those url's within your zones or are those external addresses?
I imagine this is a problem with a reverse name lookup, but how can I tell what is causing the problem? Anyone have a suggestion on finding a cure?
take a look at the logfiles - what do they say? is your client allowed to query the server or are you getting the name resolution from your other server? does it help to leave out one dns (the suse-one) in your clients ip-configuration?
