Try Nedit with the html syntax highlighting - then go and view a few 'sources' of web pages you admire and copy what you need from them. WYSIWIG html editors usually put loads of crap in that no self-respecting web author will put up with! - and htlm is really very simple... :-)
As an "Oh by the way" - for a class project, we made a web site for lenders and borrowers (<A HREF="http://gtoft.dynip.com/owl/"><A HREF="http://gtoft.dynip.com/owl/</A">http://gtoft.dynip.com/owl/</A</A>>). One of us knew very little about programming, so she did the HTML using MS Publisher. A simple page with three or four graphics was over 15K. Since these pages were going to be printed by a CGI program, we needed to edit them down a bit. I edited the Publisher trash for hours taking out the junk. It was horrible. On the other hand, when this project was done, I stopped using anything except pico and nedit to make html pages.
