If a generic HowTo tells me to add a certain line to inetd.conf, as a general rule, should I simply edit the same line into xinetd.conf instead, for SuSE 9.3?
No. xinetd uses a collection of files under /etc/xinetd.d, one per service. The format is not the same as inetd. You can look at some of the existing files there as examples, or "man xinetd.conf". -Ti -- Ti Kan
