This Suse 9.2 machine is shared by two people, and so, has two user accounts on it. Both of us use Skype, but Skype has stopped working on my user login but it does work on the other log-in. When using my log-in, if I try to dial out I get the message that Skype is 'Connecting ...' but never quite fullfils that promise. The application then will not close nicely. The 'Disconnect' button doesn't achieve anything and I have to kill Skype manually.
In an attempt to fix this problem I moved the /home/colin/.Skype directory to ./.Skype.bak and restarted Skype so it could create a new .Skype directory. Unfortunately this hasn't helped.
What I see is that it doesn't release the audio stream. Because after any contact with a Voicemail server Skype reports that the "There is a sound problem". The only way to clear it is to hangup and close Skype then reopen it. Thay seems to work.
Maybe they're not the same problem at all then because I don't get this "There is a sound problem" error message nor can I hang-up, the button doesn't do anything. In fact, other things, like text chat, stop working and I have to 'kill -9' Skype off completely. Does Skype write to any log files that might give a clue as to what my problem is? Surely it must be some corrupt file in /home/colin but wherever it is it's not in the .Skype directory 'cos I had already mv'd that. -- Colin Murphy - Colin@SpudULike.me.uk aka spudulike1964 on Skype
