Hey Group; I see a problem with SuSE 9.# and a running USB HD.

I have tried booting and sometimes it works. I have tried adding it to /etc/fstab. And no matter which kernel or thing I try - sometimes it will mount right after booting and others it won't. In any case (not running KDE) it seems to only work at boot time and for a short order. After about 10 minutes it will not mount at all. I have tried power on the HD first, plugged or unplugged and sometimes it works. It works about 25% of the time is the problem.
Which deamon could be causing this problem? Are is it a modules, fs or USB problem.
dmesg should give some clues, I have a USB card reader (sdb) and a 120G HD (sdc). The modules needed are usb-storage and SCSI hard disk in addition to *hci-hcd. usb 3-1.3: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 5 usb 3-1.3: not running at top speed; connect to a high speed hub scsi0 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices usb-storage: device found at 5 usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning Attempting manual resume scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices usb-storage: device found at 7 usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning usb 3-1.6: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 8 Vendor: Generic Model: STORAGE DEVICE Rev: 0125 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 SCSI device sda: 256000 512-byte hdwr sectors (131 MB) sda: Write Protect is off sda: Mode Sense: 02 00 00 00 sda: assuming drive cache: write through SCSI device sda: 256000 512-byte hdwr sectors (131 MB) sda: Write Protect is off sda: Mode Sense: 02 00 00 00 sda: assuming drive cache: write through sda: sda1 Attached scsi removable disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Vendor: Generic Model: STORAGE DEVICE Rev: 0125 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 SCSI device sdb: 256000 512-byte hdwr sectors (131 MB) sdb: Write Protect is off sdb: Mode Sense: 02 00 00 00 sdb: assuming drive cache: write through SCSI device sdb: 256000 512-byte hdwr sectors (131 MB) sdb: Write Protect is off sdb: Mode Sense: 02 00 00 00 sdb: assuming drive cache: write through sdb:<5> Vendor: Maxtor 6 Model: Y120L0 Rev: YAR4 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 sdb1 Attached scsi removable disk sdb at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 1 SCSI device sdc: 240121728 512-byte hdwr sectors (122942 MB) sdc: assuming drive cache: write through Vendor: Generic Model: STORAGE DEVICE Rev: 0125 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 SCSI device sdc: 240121728 512-byte hdwr sectors (122942 MB) sdc: assuming drive cache: write through sdc: sdc1 sdc2 Attached scsi disk sdc at scsi1, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 usb-storage: device scan complete Attached scsi removable disk sdd at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 2 Vendor: Generic Model: STORAGE DEVICE Rev: 0125 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 Attached scsi removable disk sde at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 3 usb-storage: device scan complete Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ...
