Hi Guys I have a question for the list which I'm hoping one of you desktop gurus may be able to help me with. Here is my system info: nix:~ # uname -a Linux nix 2.4.19-4GB #1 Thu Nov 14 09:16:07 UTC 2002 i686 unknown nix:~ # cat /etc/SuSE-release SuSE Linux 8.1 (i386) VERSION = 8.1 Now, I am happy to say that SuSE 8.1 now supports my Pentax camera (finally). When I plug it into USB the following happens: Nov 20 13:15:07 nix kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1, assigned device number 3 Nov 20 13:15:07 nix kernel: usb.c: USB device 3 (vend/prod 0xa17/0x4) is not claimed by any active driver. Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: Initializing USB Mass Storage driver... Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usb-storage Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: scsi: limiting sg entries to 204 Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: Vendor: PENTAX Model: DIGITAL_CAMERA Rev: 1.00 Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: sg_attach: dev3=(21:3) Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: sd: find_free_slot ...<7>sd: ... found 08:10 Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sdb at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: usb-uhci.c: interrupt, status 3, frame# 1508 Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: SCSI device sdb: 256000 512-byte hdwr sectors (131 MB) Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: sdb: Write Protect is off Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: sdb: sdb1 Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: WARNING: USB Mass Storage data integrity not assured Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: USB Mass Storage device found at 3 Nov 20 13:15:09 nix kernel: USB Mass Storage support registered. I can then mount the device and copy my photos off etc. I then unmount the device. The question is what should I do then? remove a module? issue some command? If I just unplug the camera the following happens: Nov 20 13:16:22 nix kernel: usb-uhci.c: interrupt, status 3, frame# 1003 Nov 20 13:16:22 nix kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 3 Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive. Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: sdb : READ CAPACITY failed. Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: sdb : status = 1, message = 00, host = 0, driver = 08 Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: Info fld=0xa00 (nonstd), Current sd00:00: sns = 70 2 Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: Raw sense data:0x70 0x00 0x02 0x00 0x00 0x0a 0x00 0x00 Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: sdb : block size assumed to be 512 bytes, disk size 1GB. Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: sdb: I/O error: dev 08:10, sector 0 Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: I/O error: dev 08:10, sector 0 Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: unable to read partition table Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive. Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: I/O error: dev 08:10, sector 0 Nov 20 13:16:24 nix kernel: Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive. This doen't seem to be the optimal way to do it, so maybe one of you can answer... TIA -- Peter Nixon http://www.peternixon.net/ PGP Key: http://www.peternixon.net/public.asc
