How do you update the firmware?
Usually by downloading a new firmware from manufacturer's web site, and following their instructions. The bad part is, that most of them has update programs only for windows, so most probably you'll need a windows machine to do this.

For some reason, I found that I didn't have dma turned on for my DVD burner. I turned it on, and now k3b doesn't bomb, but says that I need a double-layer dvd instead of my 4.7GB DVD+R(oddly, k3b treats it as a 4.4GB). I even do a test with a 300mb file, but it still doesn't like my DVD+R(insists that I need a double-layer). Growisofs says that the 4.4GB iso image is too large, too. I am trying a demo of nerolinux, and it says that I need a dvd+rw,dvd-rw, or a dvd+double-layer.It doesn't report input/output errors, though. -Steven
