it's very odd that I cannot run this command, which I found from SUSE Help Center: jl@lab11-2:~> mkinitrd bash: mkinitrd: command not found but I can run man mkinitrd
what could be the problem
Hello, The problem is that mkinitrd has to be run as root. In order to add 3c509 in the INITRD-MODULES list, run YaST2->System-> sysconfig files -> kernel-> INITRD-MODULES It should be that, I don't run Linux at the present time. Michel

I have a pentuim III 600MHz box with SUSE 9.3. everytime I start the computer, I do not have access to the internet , but after I open YaST and let it configure network controller once, I will have it. what might be wrong? ps: my network controller is:3Com 3C509b Etherlink III.
hello, It ssems that your 3c509 is an ISA card, so the module is not loaded at boot. Add 3c509 to the INITRD-MODULES list and run mkinitrd. It worked fine for me.
Michel.
