Did you just happen to read the OP that started all this? http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2009-12/msg00455.html What broke was a motherboard. The new motherboard is compatible enough that the kernels/drivers are able to find the disks, but the OS and/or boot loader is/are not smart enough to accommodate what changed as a result. With the old ways, this would not have been a problem.
