YAM (yet another mystery)! :-D I have everything-new installed, ie mplayer for example was upgraded only this morning by zypper and so were some of the codecs, but I do not have sound; however the picture is excellent :-) . Oh, it's a 32-bit 11.2 system with KDE4.3.4.
