I'm not sure if X server is up at all. How do I check?
This is freshly installed OS. no success before.
Log file shows:
X Window System Version 6.8.1 Release Date: 17 September 2004 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.8.1 Build Operating System: SuSE Linux [ELF] SuSE Current Operating System: Linux linux 2.6.8-24.14-default

If unresolved symbols were reported above, they might not *** be the reason for the server aborting.
Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting
Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support at http://wiki.X.Org for help. Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.
Boot in runlevel 3 (type 3 in the boot prompt). Then try startx. Something should appear in the log file. Also, try to run sax2 -l to try to start sax2 in low res mode. If it succeeds, then maybe some settings are not correct, or you have bad driver. Try look into settings for the graphic system and see if everything looks normal there. What video card you have?
