As a result of recovering from a messed-up 7.1 system, my KDE2 desktop for root is blank. Nothing on it, not even the icon bar at the bottom. I get the startup sound, and I can get out with Ctl-Alt-Del, but I can't do anything while I'm there. Any suggestions as to how to reinitialize it?
My user desktop is more or less OK (except for the lack of sound).
Goto single user mode and run SuSEconfig. It has worked for me in the past for problems like you describe.
I tried it and it didn't help. Why did you think that it would make a difference running SuSEconfig in single-user mode versus just running it in normal mode as root? Paul Abrahams
