Ok folks, after a few pushes, the bulb is dimly lighting and I think I have figured out part of the puzzle. With this PARTICULAR disc, since it has this "CD EXTRAS" content with a video etc. on it, SuSE is asking me if I want to open a browser window or not. And if I just want to listen to the CD I choose NO but at that point SuSE thinks it has done it's job and so it is finished prompting me. The Hardware tool is configed to do offer the kfmclient on the mixed content disc and it does. Then I say No. I was EXPECTING it to then go ahead to the KsCD option but it doesn't.
...ok... what about an older plainjane Audio CD?
no go. pop it in and nothing happens. If I open KsCD manually it works fine. Sees the CD content and off it goes. still perplexed...
Ok, here's another way to set such things. Go to control center>Kde Components>File Associations then on right panel select what you want to associate e.g. audio. Then click on the type of audio and on right add the app to the list. You can select more than one app and set the order of use you want. Change the icon by clicking on the icon above. Click apply and you're on your way.
There is also a similar capability from the konqueror settings.

Yup. Know that drill. But what is the file extension for audio files? I don't see anything in the list that looks right. In a world without walls or fences, who needs Windows or Gates?
