Hello All Someone sent me a file with .wmv extension. Nautilus shows that the file is a movie of some sort. Mplayer gives the following error message at the end:
Playing Cluster150K.wmv Falling back on trying to parse playlist Cluster150K.wmv... ============ Sorry, this file format is not recognized/supported =================
The file has a funny name "Cluster" which might be some superset of an ordinary movie file. My question is this: Is there an authoritative site which discusses all possible Linux viewers for different file formats? TIA
wmv is the extension for Windows Media Viewer. If you have all the right plugins Mplayer will do that format as well as many others. Go to Packman at http://packman.links2linux.de/index.php4?action=128 and download All the rpms for your version of SuSE. At the bottom of the window displayed you will see a bunch of rpms under the title of zusätzlich benötigte Binär-Pakete *: Be sure you download all those and install 'em. My Mplayer works beautifully on all the various extentions including dvd. Packman is your friend for bunches of SuSE binaries. Regards, richard
