One other IMPORTANT detail is that this is occurring ONLY across an internet connection. Locally (on a LAN) no problem... Bruce.
Daft question - is /dev/hdc actually mounted on the server box ?

Hi there, I am having a rather interesting ptoblem with (SuSE perhaps) nfs. <snip>
mount -t nfs node_ip_address:/directory_on_dev_hdc /mountpoint.
Even worse, if I connect to
mount -t nfs node_ip_address:/ROOT_directory_on_dev_hda /mountpoint <-- note HDA
and then attempt to go to any directory within /dev/hdc location that too will reveal nothing in the directory.
i.e. /backup is /dev/hdc1 / (root) is /dev/hda1 mount -t nfs node:/ /mountpoint is OK ls lists everything on /(root) including the directory backup cd /mountpoint/backup is fine ls lists nothing.
Is this a mental seizure on my part? Regards, Bruce.
PS /etc/exports contains
/ *.domainname(rw) <-- on /dev/hda /backup *.domainname(rw) <-- on /dev/hdc /backup/backups *.domainname(rw) <-- fails to mount... can't find the directory
