Since we're on the subject... I have read the how-to's and tried unsuccessfully to connect to my SLES 7 server remotely with X-Window. Can anyone refer me to some documentation or outline the steps for me to do this?
There are 2 high level ways.
One is to ssh in and invoke a single X program that displays back on a X-Windows display server you already have running.
The other is to run a full X login session. i.e. Remotely run an entire KDE desktop.
Which are you interested in.
I'm primarily interested in the latter: Remotely run an entire KDE desktop.
Also, what kind of display server are you wanting to use (Windows with cygwin and xfree86, another Linux box, a x-windows terminal, etc.)
I really need both: Linux and Win2k
Finally, are you asking what needs to be done on the Server end, on display end?
The first thing i want to do is to install Oracle, which requires an X-Window environment. After that it would primarily be database/system administration. CR
