It might be that some part of your setup breezed right by the fact that Gppgle changed their certifictes (doubled the key size to keep the NSA at bay). If you did not accept the new certificates some parts of the system either don't work at all, or send your cpu into meltdown state. (Especially if Akonadi is involved anwhere). For the record, Mine does not seem slower at all.
