running suse 6.3,...is there different instructions for suse....or is it all the same for all flavours of linux???
I had my system exactly like I wanted it, so I copied .config from the 2.2.16 linux tree (/usr/src/linux) to a different location. I then untarred the 2.2.17 kernel, put it in /usr/src/linux-2.2.17, deleted the old symbolic link /usr/src/linux and created a new link to linux-2.2.17. After copying .config into /usr/src/linux-2.2.17, I did "make xconfig", exited saving changes, did "make dep", then "make bzImage". How you decide to install and rerun lilo from that point wil be up to you. I never use the install scripts because I actually boot from another partition. Good luck.
