I have a Athlon Motherboard with the AC97 sound chipset. I understand to use the AMR slot with a modem card, you'll need support for this chipset under linux (software modem I assume). I believe that this chipset is the same for my embedded soundcard.
Does anyone have any information about the status of support for these types of devices? A google search didn't reveal anything significant.
Audio Modem Risers are not proving very popular so I suggest that you go for either an external modem or PCI card. Furthermore, these are software modems (e.g. Winmodems), which are rarely supported by Linux. Also, Motorola has withdrawn from this market (http://e-www.motorola.com/products/softmodem/) and Lucent are not supported. Also see http://www.linmodems.org/ and http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Modem-HOWTO-2.html.
