FYI, my problem is solved, it was the console version of yast which is not installing the scanner properly. I did it again with the GUI version. This did the job. The scanner works now.
I only tried the GUI version and none of the 3 options worked.
I ran into a weird issue yesterday with my Perfection 1660 scanner on 12.2 - it was recognized in YaST, but it wouldn't configure. Running "scanimage -L" said it wasn't found. On a lark, I removed it from the powered hub and plugged it directly into a USB port on the system, and it worked fine - the hub was interfering with it somehow. If you're using an external hub, try plugging it in directly. I could've sworn it was plugged into that hub before (on 11.4 and 12.1), but as I was reorganizing my office and realized that I needed to scan something (and had unplugged the scanner), I'm now not sure where I had it plugged in before the shuffle started.
