Yes I have. The problem really was that the XFree86 upgrade somehow managed to set /usr/X11R6, /usr/X11R6/bin and I think lib to drwx------ instead of drwxr-xr-x. Now I have one remaining problem, it still fails on fonts (See below), though the fonts directories look AOK as does the permissions in /tmp. DCOPserver runs fine for root, so I guess I have another permissions problem somewhere. =========================================================

Do you still have the resmgr line in /etc/pam.d/xdm? Is resmgrd running?
