Kevan,
Sorry to repeat this but it needs doing. Canon do NOT support Linux therefore do NOT buy Canon products. I feel I can say this with some authority as I have a Canon scanner that is only now starting to get SANE support - the contributors to that project have my heartfelt thanks, as do all FOSS contributors. Canon sim[ply don't want to know unless it's MS or Apple.

I don't know about scanners as I don't have one, but there is excellent linux support for some Canon printers. There is a program Called BrightQ that supports some Canon printers under Linux. Our office has a Canon ImageRunner 2800, which is a network copier/printer, with duplexing and multiple cassettes. ALL the features of the printer are supported. Our office also has a Mita network copier/printer as well as an HP 4100 printer, and the Canon ImageRunner has by far the best support under Linux. I don't believe BrightQ is produced by Canon, so I am not trying to say Canon supports Linux, but BrightQ does support Canon printers under Linux. The site for BrightQ and Canon printers is <http://canon.codehost.com> and is worth looking at if yo have a Canon printer. i have used it with both 9.3 and 10.0 of SUSE, and perhaps earlier, I just don't remember.
