Are you using DHCP anywhere? You can see it part of the time on the other boxes, just when you aren't trying to connect from the Suse box? One nic should have the IP address from your ISP. One nic should have the internal address scheme. Your internal boxes should be pointing to the Suse box as a gateway and possibly even their dns server(It can be pass through). Try this out if you haven't already. -----Original Message----- From: Marcia [mailto:raknakce@cox-internet.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2003 2:55 PM To: SuSE Linux English Subject: [SLE] Networking (almost there) Dear All, I am an extreme newbie about networking, however, I think I may be getting somewhere. The major problem I have left at this time is that I cannot use the internet at the same time on my 2 networked computers. I have Suse8 pro on my Linux desktop and it is my server using Samba and Shorewall. I access the internet through a cable modem. My laptop is connected through the second nic on my desktop with a crossover cable and I am using Windows 2000 on my laptop. I have Linux (Suse8)on the laptop , also, and wanted to originally use it but could not get my ethernet recognized for some reason. I can see and open my Linux files on my Windows 2000 and using LinNeighborhood I can see and open my Windows 2000 files on my Linux Desktop. I am thrilled about that. I used Swat and Samba through Webmin to set this up. Now, I am attempting to do internet sharing using Shorewall. I have succeeded somewhat because I can now use the internet on my laptop when I start the Shorewall firewall, but then I cannot use the internet on my desktop. When I stop the firewall then I no longer can use the internet on the laptop but I can use it on my Desktop. Of course, I want to be able to use the internet on both at the same time when shorewall is running. I know this is a simple configuration problem with shorewall and I have been studying and experimenting but still no luck. Could anyone help me with this problem? Any help and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
