Well, I'm not sure of WHY , but I have the same messages, and run without problems. I think APIC is important for assigning shared pci irqs. It's better to let linux handle it, than the bios. So people have recommended to disable it in bios.
This I understand and while I am not too thrilled about the idea, as I am
using a dual boot system (SuSE and Win 2K), I would do it. However, that option is not available to me in my BIOS. Therefore, I must try to get SuSE to work with the BIOS and not against it or whatever it is doing. That is why I recompiled the kernel for APIC support:
In General Setup Power management ACPI Support set Y ACPI Bus management set Y System set Y Processor set Y
Aren't ACPI and APIC different things? There should be some archived discussion about this from a couple of months back. I just run with a 'disable apic' option, never noticed any probs. HTH Fergus
There is one more step that needs to be done, when I get enough courage together to try compiling the kernel again:
CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF
So I guess that the above message isn't anything to worry about? Any other comments from the list on the issue?
Cheers,
Brian
