I think it should be Ctrl-L. But I don't like using Ctrl-L for some messages and something else for others. We're all busy folk for whom life would be easier with just one initiator, no matter the destination. In these waters, that ship as since sailed. I long ago decided to become independent of my e-mail client. So I run an imap server (remote access is nice as well). In setting this up, I went for procmail. This way, I get my mail sorted once, and then any en vogue client simple shows me what my imap maildir looks like. The upside of this is that I can also use a procmail rule to set up a reply address for mailing lists, allowing me to press "Reply" both for 'regular' mail and 'list' mail.
