Hi, If you installed SuSE 7.2, you don't need to recompile the kernel to be able to use iptables. All the required modules should be there, in /lib/modules/<kernel-version>/kernel/net/ipv[46]/netfilter. However, the current SuSE firewall scripts still use ipchains and load the ipchains compatibility module at boot time. I suspect the iptables modules cannot be loaded together with ipchains. By the way, your make_modules looks fine. Did you install the new kernel, including lilo, and did you reboot afterwards? Otherwise you're still running the previous kernel. I installed SuSE7.2, and it worked !!! In order to get iptables to work, I need to recompile it, and I tried many ways: * upgrade from /mantel to 2.4.9 * upgrade from /update to 2.4.7 * from scratch 2.4.9, 2.4.7, 2.4.6 .... All ends more or less with the problem, that the modules are not working! Whereby, the compiling of the modules are still working, and I can e.g., find the module ip_conntrack_ftp.o, but a modprobe says module not found, same for the Ethernet card, .... The last lines of make modules_install looks like: make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.6/arch/i386/lib` cd /lib/modules/2.4.6; \ mkdir -p pcmcia; \ find kernel -path `*/pcmcia/*` -name `*.o` |xargs -i -r ln -sf ../{} pcmcia if [ -r System.map ]; then /sbin/depmod -ae -F System.map 2.4.6; fi I believe the make modules_install script is not finished !!! Does anybody have an idea how to solve this ??? bye Ronald
