The DVD's themselves work fine on a # different computer with a discrete DVD drive. One of the SuSE support # people is having the same problem on his home computer. # # Does anyone have any thoughts on getting a combo drive to read a DVD? # # In 8.2 there is material on the DVD's that is not on the CD's. I have a Plextor CD-RW/DVD PX320A as scsi device 1,0,0, /dev/dvd and /dev/cdrecorder (last 2 symlinks to /dev/sr0). Works great for all intended purposes. Checklist: 1) Modules to be loaded by kernel (/etc/sysconfig/kernel -- then do mkinitrd) MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT=" cdrom ide-cd ide-scsi" 2) After rebooting check for the following devices /dev/cdrom >> /dev/hdc (or some other ATAPI name) /dev/cdrecorder>> /dev/sr0 (or some other scsi emulation name) /dev/dvd >> /dev/sr0 (I had to create this one) I got CD-ROM and CD-RW icons on the desktop.
