What I am more concerned about is getting the KDE desktop, with the plasma extensions working again. I am most familiar with the various KDE tools and use them a lot. So on that note, now that I have KDM working, I have again tried to bring up the various different window managers, using the menu selection that KDM is now giving me in the login window. All but the icewm are still failing, giving me the error message that KDEINIT5 failed.
What do
ps -A | grep dm and rpm -qa | grep dm and systemctl status display-manager
report? These need a clear answer before dup'ing is warranted.
Do you still want this info? I think I got this piece of the puzzle
Still might help.
figured out and working now.... Baby steps!!! Now back to figuring out why my KDE desktop is still sick... ;-) Marc...
Nothing in zypper output suggests to me that zypper dup would fix the kdeinit5 failure. If sddm remains installed, it could be playing a part in kdeinit5 failure, but this is only guessing. If it's still installed, remove it and try again. If it doesn't help, I'd go ahead and ping the experts on the opensuse-kde list for what to try next. When you do, remind them what /var/lib/systemd/coredump contains when you point to this thread, and attach the output from 'journalctl -b | grep kdeinit' taken after one try to login to Plasma after a fresh boot. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
