[opensuse] OpenSuSE 12.1 and Dell Inspiron 5150 Gnome failure

Looks like I have two major problems usb flash drives do not automount and Gnome goes to a solid color screen and fails to work. However system works in IceWM so the fault is in gnome. got the install disks from www.osdisc.com worked ok but how do I use the repository disks which came from there? I note the sad loss of SaX2.
