Well, there could be several reasons. One is memory (run at stock settings and memtest it); another is overclocking (run at your motherboard's defaults); another is a dodgy power supply. But, it could be your Radeon card. Are you using the ATI/fglrx 3D drivers? I had really annoying random lock-up troubles on my Radeon 9500 Pro and SuSE 9.2 with these until I found a fix, which involved recompiling a kernel module to turn off fast writes. There can be other issues with the ATI Linux drivers, though, also leading to locking. For more information, see the Linux forums at www.rage3d.com which is a great resource for Radeon-owners. Numerous bugs and fixes have been posted there. A friend had lock up problems with his Radeon on WinXP which he traced to the "ATI Tool" - some kind of overclocking gizmo supplied by ATI. He wiped it off his hd and the problem went away. Just a guess. Hope you find a fix. My next card will be an Nvidia one. :) Fish
