The install was going through just fine, and now the problem I'm having appears to be more a software issue than a hardware issue. During the install it's telling me that it's missing a file needed to complete the install. SuSe did not allow me to skip the installation of this package. I did select some packages outside of the minimum install, and while I did make sure to check dependencies, perhaps that's not as reliable as I had hoped?
I'm sorry I can't be more specific about what file was missing and what package was being installed that the file was needed for. It was something I noticed when I checke the SuSe install right before leaving work last night. I'm going to go back through and do either a full install or a minimum install. That way I can be sure that all of

Thanks and now on to the issue at hand:
I really, really, very strongly, recommend trying the FailSafe option. It just might get you past all these lockups and CD/DVD drive/media reading issues. If it installs then we can go back and enable the options one at a time to see which breaks/fixes whatever.
Another thought is to check www.CDFreaks.com for CD/DVD drive firmware updates. That may cure some CD/DVD drive issues.

My apologies...I didn't realize what I was doing. This is the first mailing list I've ever subscribed to. I'm not really using an email program. I'm running Gmail. I have Outlook on my computer and was considering making the switch to Thunderbird... Off-topic. Anywhos, I'm really kicking myself about that error earlier. It was missing a file...it was askng me for disc 3 to continue the install!!!! Yeah, I cursed at myself for that one. But, oh well, when you're tired and hungry and it's late and you want to go home...what can you do? I'm re-running the install. On disc 4 now, and things are looking great. -Myles
