Exactly what I was getting with Firefox. I ended up completely deleting Firefox (I don't have Thunderbird installed) and then re-installing an older version from the DVD/CD. At this point in time I'm sorry but I don't remember whether I have downloaded directly from Mozilla or not but I suspect I did and this worked (Ithink).
