Greetings all, Seems like I have seen several here talking about or complaining about the new graphics cards that are not "Built by ATI" but only powered by. Here is a mail I got from the XFree86 list today. Hope it helps.

Wooohooo! way to go /.! (or is that \.?) I just DL'd it and FINALLY I have an XF86log file that reads "direct rendering ENABLED" :) :) :) But, it isn't exactly time to break out the champagne -- KDE still complains (when I start tuxracer) that my system doesn't have 3d accelleration, but glxgears and glxinfo runs fine -- it is ENTIRELY possible that I haven't installed it correctly [or there are "remnants" of other installation attempts] which is causing a conflict. As to tuxracer itself, I got the initial "snow" screen and music, but pressing "start race" crashed out tuxracer and my mouse froze. I could still go to console screens (ctl-alt-fn1), but that ended up with an off-frequency display [good thing I can type "shutdown -r now" in the dark :) ]
