Before installing ATI driver fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.2.5.i586.rpm from ATI site to get 3D to work.
video files played fine via:
KMPlayer MPlayer Kaboodle Noatun and Xine
after installing the ATI driver 3D worked
3Ddiag reported all OK
but there is only a black screen (in window) when playing mpg with any of the video players. Sound from the videos still plays.
I have tried 3D enabled and disabled.
How should I unistall this driver and revert to the YAST default ? 3D is not so important.
Is there something general that has been mal-configured by this driver ?
Any suggestions please ?
John ================ John,
You should not have needed the ATI driver to get 3D working with that card as it is supported fully in XFree86 4.3 now. You can use the command "rpm -e fglrx-glc22", to remove the ATI driver. Also, be sure that you are in init 3 while doing this as you will have to start up sax2 to configure graphics normally. Check in /etc/X11 to see if the ATI config file, XF86Config-4, is removed, as it will/could interfere with your standard config file. When running sax2, use "sax2 -m 0=radeon", to start it and be sure to go thru all the settings, setting your screen size, 3D enabled, and checking the other settings for correctness. Lastly, test the settings, save them and back at the prompt issue "init 5" command to get back to your login screen.
