i was thinking the same thing, but it doesn't work no matter what directories i list there.. i tried setting it at every level between his setting and /pub. all came back with the same error.
personally, i use apt to install any missing packages. on the occasions that it's not in the apt repository, i go hunting for some src.rpms with tarballs being my last stand (never had problems w/ tarballs, but i prefer to keep the rpm database up-to date). one of these days, i'll get around to learning to write spec files.
hah! let me just add that to my list of "things to do when i have time", right under "prioritize list so i might actually do some of these things"
