OK, its been a long time since I've set this up and I must be missing something.
This is my host file:
192.168.0.101 warthog.de warthog
But when I try to use FF to go to warthog or warthog.de it times out. When I use www.warthog.de I get some odd dating site. I checked my Apache server is up and running. So I must be missing something.
First, ping warthog to check that the IP address above is really used by your system and that the network interface is activated.
This is what I get when I do a ping:
PING warthog.de (192.168.0.101) 56(84) bytes of data. ^C --- warthog.de ping statistics --- 6 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 4999ms
Use the command ip addr ls to check which interfaces are active (they must have UP listed in the angles after the interface name) and which IP addresses are assigned to them. Either your network interface is not up, or the IP address is not correct.
