On a different 12.3 system, with similar persistent cabled

I don't remember seeing those, are they logged to /var/log/messages ?
Yes. I usually have used them to see what NIC is what. Very handy. When they worked... I am also curious why the link status (e.g., UP) no longer gets set when the cable is plugged in. In both systems, the sysconfig file for the interface is: BOOTPROTO='static' BROADCAST='' ETHTOOL_OPTIONS='' IPADDR='10.2.10.41/24' MTU='' NAME='RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller' NETWORK='' REMOTE_IPADDR='' STARTMODE='auto' USERCONTROL='no' IPADDR_0='10.1.5.1/24' LABEL_0='ANTS' With only IPADDR, NAME and IPADDR being different. Both systems use the traditional way to bring up the interfaces. -- Yours sincerely, Roger Oberholtzer Ramböll RST / Systems Office: Int +46 10-615 60 20 Mobile: Int +46 70-815 1696 roger.oberholtzer@ramboll.se ________________________________________ Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O.
