based on number of commits and rebuilds in each repository. Release numbers in each repository are independent and cannot be used to compare packages.
Apparently, though, Yast does use the release numbers along with the version number to compare packages, and says the 160.1 release is newer than the 2.17.1, though I don't know how it might otherwise decide which is newer except perhaps from comparing the packaging date. http://paste.opensuse.org/view/raw/2a9f32c2 Again, not a problem in this case, as I knew what I had installed from obs was "older" than the soon-to-come official release.
