rpms for redhat 5.0 or greater are generally not compatible with SuSE as SuSE is based on libc5 and redhat is glibc. Make additions to /etc/ld.so.conf.in and then run SuSEconfig. Getting gnome to compile on a libc5 based system nearly takes an act of god. Either that or gnome is just a long ways off from being ready for the end user. I have it running on my box but I really had to hack to get it compiled, and I used three different compilers (I recommend egcs 1.0.3a if you are masochist enough to try). Hopefully SuSE will be glibc soon ( ;) ) so that won't be an issue. Until then, enjoy kde and pretend it's gnome. Not that there is anything wrong with kde, I just think having a desktop environment that is window manager dependent is a move in the wrong direction. Gnome will be present in the future of the xdesktop whether you like it or not IMO, so at least you are granted the freedom to choose your own window manager with it. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
