Hi Folks, There is some correspondence going on on the redhat-devel list about the relationship between libc5, glibc (= libc6) and the Linux headers (include files). I'm not sure I'm following it well, but it seems that glibc is intended to be "self-contained" as far as possible, whereas with libc5 on Linux there may be considerable dependency on the Linux headers (depending on the program being compiled). Whatever the details may be, this suggests that the config file and Makefile for compiling any software may need to be substantially restructured in order to compile cleanly under glibc. S.u.S.E. plan to base 3.0 on glibc (right?). So will all the software sources distributed by S.u.S.E. have their Makefiles etc suitably restructured? Or will we live for a time with some software sources glibc-ed, and the rest still libc5? It strikes me that there is rich scope for inconsistency and confusion here. Or am I being paranoid? Enlightenment welcome!
