Patrick, The only thing I can think of is that the umask is getting screwed up by one of the filesystems mounts you are working over. No, I don't have a silver-bullet for you, but find a way to confirm that the umask you get when accessing the remote FS isn't causing your file permissions to be off. The only experience I have with them is with ftp. There, if you don't have the correct mask set when accessing remote files, you see issues similar to what you are describing. HTH. -- David C.
