Do as Patrick told you. Verify the content in /etc/zypp/repos.d/ is all appropriate. One or more repos are, or at least at the time you updated, were, inappropriate or otherwise broken. That 'zypper ve' now says there are problems suggests most likely your repo configuration is bad (some kind of mismatch). If any of *.repo contain any version number other than the one you are running (42.2?) it needs to be fixed. All are plain text files.
Does this include repo's that are disabled? I think I see a couple for 42.1 but I also think they are not enabled...
Do not guess. Inspect. Open MC. Install it with zypper if command-not-found results. It provides built in view, edit, facilitated filesystem navigation and much more while maintaining shell prompt at the ready. Each .repo that is disabled will contain an enabled=0 line. Given your current trouble, each you have that has 42.1 in it and does not have a corresponding file with 42.2 to supersede it should probably be edited to read 42.2 and contain enabled=1.
Follow that up with 'zypper ref; zypper ve' and reboot. If the greeter still can't give you a working Plasma session (or any other session type), and you are sure your repos are correctly configured, it's time to either take it to opensuse-kde, or if you are brave enough, give 'zypper -v dup' a try. (Here it would be the latter first. ;-) )
zypper ref; zypper ve and rebooting did not change anything... :-( Um, not sure how brave I am, I got my hands slapped a while back for having done a zypper -v dup when I should have done a simple zypper up... I was following some advice I got on another thread and learned that was not such a good idea... So let me know and if you still think I should, I will give it a shot...
zypper dup is only appropriate if you know the repos are appropriately configured and there is brokenness not otherwise readily or at all repairable. We are waiting to see your 'zypper lr --detail' output.... -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
