I have recently been given an old pcmcia PCI Card (PCI Card that allows you to plug in a pcmcia "Module card" into a desktop workstation). The card uses a spare plug off the IDE2 cable and has a number of chips that handle the conversion. No labels, marks, etc as usual and they don't remember where it came from or when except it was back in the mid1980's when they first set it up. I have been asked if it's possible to use this with Linux as their current system (a program written in dos 3) has reached the end of it's lifespan and they want to "move on". At least I have the source code for the simple tables program, and that will be easy to convert (for once). 1- Does any of the "driver" people online know if this is the norm for pcmcia to feed from the ide bus? 2- Does anyone have a pointer for how-to to writing a driver interface as the pcmcia seems only to convert levels to 20 parallel inputs (like a open-collector to a 6821 parallel chip, for those technically minded). And yes, I am asking before I try as both my "play" machines are already busy, will be til after christmas, and never having looked at device drivers or interfaces for them I'd like a pointer or two first. regards and thanks in advance to any help given scsijon
