If this situation with kde4 had not yet been put before the board of maintainers, then get in on the agenda. From a historical standpoint, I would like to see what decisions concerning this desktop have been made by the board to date.
Where are the minutes from the board meetings and past decisions by the board of maintainers kept?
http://www.google.com/search?q=opensuse+kde+meeting+minutes&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 might be a start.
The guiding principles of openSuSE require:
<quote> ... transparency of the decision making processes, transparency of communication and transparency of work and collaboration processes. That includes openly answering questions, providing all relevant information, and actively keeping all involved parties informed. We are convinced that a transparent culture whose inner workings can be understood by everybody provides the most efficient and rewarding environment to reach our goals. </quote>
If you haven't read them lately, they can be found at: https://users.opensuse.org/guidingprinciples
Further, the governance principles require that:
<quote> The openSUSE community and Novell define the content of the distribution based on defined criteria and a transparent process led by the board of maintainers. </quote>
Will one of you Novell or openSuSE guys please provide a link to the criteria referenced in the guiding principles paragraph above.
I'm not one of them, yet maybe the following helps: the final decision has to be taken by the team, which only has limited resources and has to do the actual work. Further they announced and discussed this on news.opensuse.org, the IRC meetings and maybe even the kde mailinglist. opensuse@ is a support mailinglist, not an announcement- or news-mailinglist. To inform users does not mean that they (the kde team) have to come to you, but that you have to look for the information at the places that are used for announcements and communication within the kde-team and its community.
This desktop seems like a lost ship without a compass or heading. What is the direction here? Further troubling is that the way the kde4 decision making process has progressed. I read or scan virtually every post and I visit the openSuSE site almost daily. The entire kde4 development process seems to have ignored completely the openSuSE guiding principles and the transparency requirement embodied therein.
Or you did not care to look for information and participate rather than being served. KDE3 vs KDE4 was discussed over weeks and a decision was made and announced. Everybody could have joined the discussion and participate in it, if he was interested in it - which I guess is the real answer to all this complaining afterwards.
