Linux since 5.1 and I have been very happy with it. I don't know that much about the manual because I hate to read manuals unless I ultimately have to do that. But when I do read it, I find it very informative. One thing that I have gotten used to with any Liinux distribution is: don't expect any technical support from the vendor. So just hope that whatever comes out of the vendor's door is perfect, or closest to perfect. Then it is up to you to do the rest, making sure that it works on your machine. It is also when I have to dig around the system that I leant most. If you think S.u.S.E. is bad, try Red Hat and you will appreciate how good S.u.S.E. is.

I agree with that. It is easy to install, YaST is a good sys admin tool, and the comm'l distribution (I have SuSE 5.2) has tons of nice apps. BUT, see below for the darker side (IMHO).
If you get the commercial version, I am told that it features a very good handbook and 60 days of installation support.
NOT true, in my (limited, newbie) experience. The manual really
YEs i agree.SuSE rocks. I tried redhat 5.1 but the install is broken and the tech support is non existent.INfact i sent 4 e-mails in the registered support section and didn't get 1 REPLY!! I think redhat is waaay to commercial to give a dam about makening a decent distro. All my freinds that have run redhat say its pretty screwy and buggy.well SuSE i'm yet to find one hole one bug one anything. The german maybe kinda heh distruptive but hell the book kicks the hell outta the redhat book by far! Great programming and this mailing list rules. So bada boom bada bing hehe pertains,
at least in part, to versions older that 5.2. Of equal concern is the quality of the German -> English translation. Sometimes it's just funny but clear, but other times there's no hope of getting the meaning intended.
Technical support is poor to nonexistent, except for the folks (SuSE and others) on this list. Phone support isn't toll free (in the US) and is only available on Tue and Fri. E-mail support has not worked for me 2 out of 2 times.
