Awesome, thanks. This does the trick: mplayer dvd://3 -chapter 6-6 -aid 129 -ao pcm:file=/tmp/output.avi ^ ^ ^ ^ read from title 3 chapter 6 audio output to pcm format of the DVD only track 2 with this filename It could probably be improved, I've a feeling that mencoder should be able to do it without making me watch the movie, and the output needs re-normalizing to get full dynamic range, but it's working and good enough for what I want. Read it inot audacity, and then do what you like with it. Thanks to all who provided input, this was fun! Cheers, Simon --- Peter Vollebregt <peter.vollebregt@gmail.com> wrote:
Simon,
Hi all,
I would like to take the soundtrack off a DVD, much in the same way as I might "rip" a CD. Can I do this?
mplayer can do this. Work out the details yourself but eg this thread explains how.

transcode and dvd::rip could be of service also.
