Marc, please try this and let me know the results;
$ sudo echo blacklist snd-hda-intel > /etc/modprobe.d/intel.conf $ sudo reboot
Masaru Nomiya, thanks again for your suggestions, but again no joy! I am still getting the "system error" message when I try to use the test feature for each audio device. You asked about my sound system setup, it is a bit complicated. The sound coming from the onboard motherboard devices I just send to my office monitor and use the monitor's internal speakers, mic, and video camera. The sound that goes through the Creative Labs audio card is send to two different sound outputs, 1 analog and 1 digital. The analog output is sent to a Harmon Kardon media center for my main living room surround sound 7-1 speakers. The digital output is sent to an equalizer and from there routed to my bedroom stereo speakers, hot tub room 5-1 surround sound system, to my cupola/office stereo speakers, and to/from my piano room with a recording mic and stereo playback setup. HTHs, Marc
